THE NATIONAL HOUSING PROGRAMME.
The National Housing Programme (NHP) in Nigeria is a development project initiated by the Federal Government to address the country’s affordable housing challenges. The core mandate of the NHP is to provide adequate and affordable housing through home ownership and rental schemes for all Nigerians, both in urban and rural areas.
Currently, the NHP has housing schemes available in 34 states in Nigeria. The programme offers a range of housing units, from 1 to 3-bedroom bungalows and blocks of flats.
The application process for the NHP for Nigerians in the Diaspora is facilitated through an online Expression of Interest Form (EOI). Eligible applicants must be adults above 18 years, have a verifiable means of income or employment, and comply with the terms and conditions of sale.
The NHP represents a significant effort to address the housing deficit in Nigeria, which, according to a World Bank report, requires at least an additional 720,000 housing units each year. The programme is part of the government’s broader strategy to address the economic crisis in the country.
